When the team at TSM heard that Sport Endurance was running a ride at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire, we were all keen to take our horses for a fun day out.
If you are not familiar with Clumber Park, it is definitely worth a visit. With over 3,800 acres of picturesque parkland and gardens, peaceful woodlands and a magnificent lake to enjoy, there is plenty of space to explore.
Six of us booked in to do the 20 mile route; four riders from TSM and two friends. As the day of the ride approached and we franticly checked the weather forecast, it seemed pretty certain our 20 mile ride was going to be a wet one.
With waterproofs packed and spare clothes at the ready, we arrived at Clumber Park and to our amazement, were greeted by sunshine and blue skies! The horses all travelled well and we set off on time in high spirits, feeling very lucky that the weather was so fine.
The going was good and we were soon cantering through the forest, smiles all round! For three of the horses, it was their first endurance ride but they were all very well behaved after the initial excitement and novelty of horses overtaking them at various speeds.
The route was well marked (although there were a couple of disagreements over the map reading!) and we all made it back in one piece for a picnic whilst the horses relaxed in the sunshine.
The ride was great for improving fitness (both horse and rider) and it was lovely to ride in such beautiful surroundings, we are all looking forward to the next one
